The Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center is committed to the protection of all children who have become victims of physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, drug endangerment, human trafficking, or witnesses to a homicide. The center is located in an old Victorian, three story house in Wilkes-Barre.
The center strives to create a child friendly, safe environment to conduct joint interviews and investigations, along with a comfortable setting for medical examinations and a base of support staff.
The LCCAC was founded in 2010 under the direction of the District Attorney's Office of Luzerne County. At that time, 155 children were receiving child abuse services annually.
In 2014, the LCCAC became an independent, non-profit organization. In May of 2014, we reopened our doors to 350 abused children needing services.
The LCCAC provides services to approximately 500 children annually. Since our doors opened in 2010, we have provided services to over 6,000 abused children in Luzerne County.
The LCCAC provides free forensic interviews, medical examinations and evidence collection, and victim and child advocacy services to sexually and physically abused children in Luzerne County. All services are provided to children and their families at no cost to them. We ensure that no child or family will ever have to pay for services when a child discloses the trauma of child abuse.
From the moment a child walks into our doors, they begin the healing process. We let them know it is a safe place where you can begin to trust again. We provide them with services to begin the healing process as well as items to begin their little lives over again.
Though we see about 500 children each year, the number of child abuse reports that come in is more than quadruple that annually. Approximately 3000 reports of child abuse are made each year to Child Line for Luzerne County alone!
There are so many other children out there that we don't know need our help. It is so important to make sure that our doors stay open for many, many years to come to ensure that the children in our community are safe.
Our most valuable resource in life is our children and our mission is to protect them and make their world safe again!
